This page is dedicated to the loving memory of
Sammie from Miami. Sammie was in our senior sanctuary program. It seemed since the day she
arrived she just blended right into the Iowa Eskie Spa and Resort. Sammie
never had an argument or a bad relationship with any of the other Eskies
or humans. She preferred to sleep downstairs and would like to eat by
herself. It almost seemed like she didn't want to take up too much space
or be a bother, which she never was or would have been. Sammie from Miami
quickly became my special early morning smiley face. Every morning at 1:30am when
all the others were sleeping upstairs, she would follow me around and help
me get ready for work; and always a goodbye kiss. This was her special job. During the day, she had a
way of staying out of site when it was time for all the other Eskies to go outside, just so she
could get some one on one loving. (smart girl that she was). Being part of
a sanctuary that takes in seniors is usually a joyful and fulfilling job,
except for when its time for them to leave. Even though I never forget
that this is the last stop for them, it never hurts any less when reality
sets in. We try
to make the sanctuary life as fun and enjoyable as we can. Sammie made my life more bearable
